Sonesimia grossa is a bold, striped sharpshooter leafhopper native to South America, found in countries like Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and parts of Argentina. First described by Victor Antoine Signoret in 1854, this insect belongs to the Cicadellidae family and feeds on plant sap using piercing-sucking mouthparts. Easily recognized by its vivid striping across the body and head, S. grossa plays a significant role in agriculture—not just as a sap-feeder, but also as a vector of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, which causes serious diseases in crops like coffee and plum.
