Olla v-nigrum, known as the Ashy Gray Lady Beetle, was first described in 1866 by French entomologist Étienne Mulsant. Though the exact location of its discovery isn’t confirmed, this species is native to the Americas and is found from Canada through Central and South America. It has also been introduced to regions like Hawaii and Guam for natural pest control. This lady beetle is notable for having two distinct color forms: one is pale gray or tan with small black spots, and the other is a melanic form that’s black with two red spots and white shoulder markings. Measuring just 3.7 to 6.1 mm in length, it inhabits a wide variety of environments including gardens, orchards, and forests, especially favoring fruit and nut trees.
